The grass-root network DSOS (Data Science and Open Science) and AEMON-J (Aquatic Ecosystem Modeling Network - Junior) are hosting a Hacking Limnology event. The event is a virtual, free event July 21-25.

The first part of the week is AEMON-J workshops that center on major themes (e.g., big data, remote sensing, machine learning, and numerical modeling) and keynote presentations with live hands-on coding exercises. The second part of the week is the DSOS virtual summit, 'Virtual Summit: Incorporating Data Science and Open Science in Aquatic Research' that includes 10 minute presentations by 20 presenters about aquatic research including open data and open science approaches and a 'Career in Data Science and Open Science" panel.

The majority of the program will be 14:00-18:00 UTC (10:00-14:00 EDT), but on July 23 it will be 18:00-22:00 UTC (14:00-18:00 EDT). Join July 24 from 15:45-15:55 UTC for Kelly Aho's talk "Creating and using NEON derived data products to gain new insights into greenhouse gas emissions from streams and rivers."

More information about the workshop and summit schedules are available on the Hacking Limnology event website https://aquaticdatasciopensci.github.io/.
Join us for NEON’s first Convergence Summit!

The NSF-funded National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is hosting its first Convergence Summit October 15-17, 2025 in Boulder, CO. This in-person, facilitated event will bring together NEON staff, NEON Ambassadors, and interdisciplinary teams of researchers who are motivated to explore innovative ways to use NEON data, samples, and infrastructure to advance continental-scale biology. This event is inspired by the 2019 NEON Science Summit and the NSF ‘Reintegrating Biology Town Halls facilitated by Knowinnovation, the latter of which resulted in the identification of 90 innovative research questions and 65 vision papers.

Key outcomes of the 2025 NEON Convergence Summit are enthusiastic workgroups that will convene at the Summit to collaborate on impactful research outputs such as funding proposals, white papers or manuscripts, derived data products, predictive approaches or new models, curricula or tutorials, or other valuable resources for the community following the event.

Applications to attend closed May 31, 2025. Those that applied will receive notifications on the status of their application in mid-July. Please Contact Us with questions.
